Our Partnership with Dentaid: The Mobile Dental Unit, Bringing Essential Care Across the UK

At Densura, we are proud to support the vital work of Dentaid, a charity that makes an incredible impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals through accessible dental care. One of the key elements of this partnership is our sponsorship of a unique mobile dental unit, affectionately known as “Lidl,” a name inspired by the van’s license plate.

Lidl, which is now 22 years old, is more than just a van. For Susanna Yates, Clinical Supervisor, and Shane, the dedicated driver, she is a lifeline that delivers critical dental services to those who need it most. Susanna and Shane spend countless hours travelling in the van, working tirelessly to bring care to communities across the UK. Based in Southampton, Lidl travels far and wide, providing outreach dental clinics to some of the most marginalized members of society.

Dentaid’s mission is to serve those who are often overlooked: people experiencing homelessness, abuse, poverty, or who are otherwise unable to access basic healthcare. The mobile unit offers not just dental care, but a sense of dignity and hope to those in difficult situations.

Inside one of Dentaid’s vans, you’ll find a fully equipped, state-of-the-art dental surgery. The vans are fitted with X-ray facilities, a reception area, and full disabled access. They are a self-contained clinic on wheels, enabling Dentaid’s team to set up in various locations and provide services without the need for a fixed facility. Just yesterday, Lidl was operated by a volunteer dentist and dental nurse who treated ten patients, offering much-needed care, from fillings and extractions to hygiene treatments.

Each patient has a unique story, and the care provided in Lidl helps to not only address immediate dental needs but also offer long-term health advice. Oral health is closely linked to overall well-being, and for many of the individuals treated, Dentaid’s services represent a critical step in improving their quality of life.
