At a Glance: What Information Do I Need to Apply for Cover as an ECSP Dentist?
To process your quote and maintain accurate records in line with NHS England reporting requirements, please have the following information ready:
- Confirmation of your ECSP agreement – confirmation that your formal ECSP agreement with NHS England is in place
- Key ECSP details – the agreed start date of your plan, the expected duration, and the name and contact details of your assigned NHS England Supervisor
- Supporting documentation – copies of relevant paperwork including your formal ECSP plan and any initial assessment outcomes
- Mandatory course attendance – details of any mandatory introductory primary care NHS dentistry courses you are required to attend, along with dates of attendance if these have already been completed
If you obtained your primary dental qualification overseas and are practising in the UK, there are some additional requirements we’ll need to document as part of your quote application. This is particularly relevant if you are currently working under the Educational and Clinical Support Plan (ECSP) — the scheme which replaced the previous Performers List Validation by Experience (PLVE) programme for overseas-qualified dentists joining NHS primary care dentistry in England.
Understanding and evidencing your ECSP status is important not only for NHS England compliance, but also to ensure your indemnity cover accurately reflects your supervised practice arrangements.
The information we require helps Densura ensure that your cover is correctly structured for your supervised practice period and that all compliance obligations are properly recorded.
Not yet sure of your ECSP status? We recommend contacting NHS England directly or speaking with your practice principal or supervisor before submitting your application. Having this documentation confirmed and to hand will speed up the process considerably.
Important Policy Conditions for ECSP Dentists
There are also two key policy conditions you must be aware of before taking out cover with Densura as an ECSP dentist.
- You must commence your ECSP within six months of your policy start date
Your policy terms are based on the understanding that you will begin your ECSP within six months of your cover incepting. If for any reason you do not start the ECSP within this period, you are obliged to notify Densura immediately. Failure to do so could mean your policy does not respond to a dental malpractice claim – so this is not a condition to overlook.
- A reduced rate applies – but only for up to one year
Subject to confirmation that your ECSP will start within the first six months of cover, and that you will contact us once it has started, Densura offers a reduced premium rate to reflect your supervised practice status. However, please be aware that this reduced rate is available for a maximum of one year.
Once you receive your full performers number, you must inform us promptly so that we can transfer you to our standard associate rates. This applies even if you receive your performers number mid-term – do not wait until your renewal date to let us know.
In short: Keep us informed at every stage. Whether your ECSP is delayed, has started, or you’ve received your full performers number, a quick notification to Densura ensures your cover remains valid and correctly priced throughout.
